Job Purpose

The Engineering Designer develops and revises product designs by applying engineering principles under moderate supervision. The role ensures all designs meet established quality and performance standards and prepares or oversees accurate technical documentation for new and revised products.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop designs of moderate complexity based on engineering input, need statements, or project team requirements, ensuring alignment with quality standards.

  • Create CAD-based engineering layouts using CREO, establishing multi-dimensional model features to accurately represent design concepts.

  • Analyze designs for form, fit, function, manufacturability, assembly, and usability using CAD tools and calculations.

  • Select initial materials, common components, and engineering standards using catalogs, references, or existing product data.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to gather information on prototype fabrication, materials, processes, and purchased parts.

  • Prepare engineering documentation including ECOs, BOMs, parts lists, specifications, and supporting forms using office software or CAD tools.

  • Provide time estimates for design tasks and share progress updates to ensure adherence to project timelines.

Internal and External Relationships

Internal Contacts

  • Frequent collaboration with engineers regarding design criteria, schedules, and problem-solving.

  • Occasional interaction with Manufacturing teams.

  • Moderate interaction with Purchasing, Engineering IT, Marketing, Model Shop, and Product Analysis Lab.

External Contacts

  • Moderate engagement with suppliers for catalogs, samples, prototype discussions, and information gathering.

Business Expertise

Requires a strong understanding of team operations and awareness of industry trends, market developments, and competitor offerings.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering Design or equivalent experience

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a design engineering role

  • Hands-on experience with CREO is mandatory

  • Strong understanding of engineering practices and manufacturing processes

  • Proven ability to creatively design and document products across multiple projects

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to function effectively in a development-oriented team environment

  • SAP experience (especially Variant Configuration) is an added advantage

  • Experience with commercial office furniture, particularly laminate and wood/veneer case goods, is a plus
